7 facts about me….
1) I AM OBSESSED WITH WOOLWORTHS
It was my favourite store from my youth, and I ended up getting a job at their head office after uni (dream come true!). When they closed down, I set up a facebook group for the public to take a picture of their local store before they all disappeared off the high street.
Now I run the website Woolies Buildings – Then and Now, documenting the history of each store, under the twitter identity of @wwdetective. I’ve done 38 stores, only another 1000 to go! (Edit: Now done over 200)
2) I USED TO WORK FOR BARBIE
My most favourite toy ever (way more than Sindy :-P). I remember doing this amazing presentation telling them how we could make Barbie the No.1 toy again, and I ended up getting the job for Assistant Brand Manager (another dream come true!) I did an Andy Warhol style painting of Barbie which they hung in reception – I took it with me when I left!
3) I MET MY HUSBAND AT WOOLWORTHS
We both sat on the 5th floor, I was in Events and he was in Toys & Stationery. I chatted him up at the 2002 Christmas Party, which was in our canteen. I said to him, “What’s your name Toys person?” He said “I’m not Toys, I’m Stationery!”. I didn’t catch his name that night as they started playing that chicken song and we got dragged into it. Anyway it all worked out, he gave me his blue Superflex ruler, and we got married 6 years later 🙂
4) I’M A GRAPHIC DESIGNER, BUT I WASN’T ALWAYS ONE
I retrained at the age of 30, doing evening classes whilst working full-time, showing it’s never too late to change career.
5) I WAS BORN IN TRURO, CORNWALL
But my parents moved to a London suburb when I was 6 months. So I have this connection with Cornwall and the seaside, like it feels like home. I asked my dad, “Why did you move??” He said “No Asians”. Lol.
6) I GAVE BIRTH TO MY SON IN MY FAVOURITE RED DRESS
I didn’t intend to, I had bought a new nightie especially, but he was born in 3 hours, it happened so quickly. I still can’t believe I was in Costa that day having a coffee with my cousin and sister, not realising I was in labour!
7) I STARTED BLOGGING BECAUSE MY CELEBRITY COUSIN TOLD ME TO
She said I should share my design ideas with the world. (If you’re from Canada, you will have heard of her – Melinda Shankar – she’s my husband’s first cousin, random or what!)
This is fab! The woollies obsession is very funny. Jobs and a hubby thanks to Woolies!! ️Xx #twinklytuesday

Fantastic facts. I love your obsession with Woolworths. They were fab stores buy mainly because they did the most immense pick and mix!

Haha! I love these — I joined in with the One Lovely Blog tag last year — it’s amazing what you find out about people! 🙂 Love the Woolies reference but I especially love the Barbie/Sindy debate. I was a Sindy girl through and through!! Had just about EVERYTHING!! My 4 storey house collapsed but I’ve still got the swimming pool, the Range Rover and the gig and horse!! 😉 Thanks so much for linking up with #TwinklyTuesday x

Ooh the Liebster, didn’t know about that one – will have to check your post out! Hee hee, I have some of my dolls in storage too, who knows they might be worth something in the future! The painting…. basically everyone in the company got given a small blank canvas to paint something Mattel-related, and my one got chosen to hang in reception – I was well chuffed 🙂 xx
