I left this really late, it’s been on my to-do list for weeks, but I finally packed my hospital bags at 38 weeks. It was thanks to this post by Emily at My Petit Canard that made me do it, her list was so handy as to what I should pack. So this is what is in my hospital bags.
FOR LABOUR:
This is in a large shoulder bag, all the things I think I’ll need for labour in the Birthing Centre.
- Nightie
- Black pants
- Swimwear and towel if I do go for a water birth
- iPod
- Hypnobirthing CD
- Socks
- Nutrigrain bars
- Ribena with straws
- Lucozade
- Water
- Vaseline & Lip Balm
- Hairbands
FOR AFTER THE BIRTH:
This is packed in my little trolley suitcase.
For mum:
- Nursing-friendly Nightie & Sleep Bra
- Black pants
- Lanolin
- Disposable Nursing Pads
- Maternity Pads
- Going Home Outfit
- Bravado Nursing Bra
For baby:
- Nappies
- Simple Wipes
- Sudocrem
- Vaseline (from the other bag)
- Cotton Wool
- Blankets x 3
- Muslin Squares x 3
- Bodysuits x 3
- Babygros (first size) x 3
- Babygros (newborn size) x 3
- Baby socks
- Scratch mittens x 2
- Hats x 2
I’ll probably bring a blanket and cushion too as home comforts, as I did with Tyler’s birth.
On the day I’ll add in toiletries, like toothbrush, toothpaste, shower gel, face cream, body cream. But hopefully I won’t be in the hospital for too long.
When we leave, my siblings will pick us up and bring the infant car seat. Well that’s the plan!
I think that’s it. If you’ve had a baby at a hospital or birthing centre, does this look similar to what was in your hospital bag?

Ooh getting very close now!! 🙂 Looks like you have everything you could need – I took my own pillow in with me for labour as I wasn’t allowed a water birth. xXx

It is nice having your own pillow, I remember I grabbed one of my cushions on the way to the hospital first time round, and I was so glad I had it with me x

Oh I loved packing and repacking my hospital bags. I had to get mine done super early as I had twins and was told they were often early – but they weren’t. I was so lucky!

Really I didn’t know that about twins, and funny they didn’t come early after all that! x

Just putting my own bag together. Only 5 weeks to go…
My maternity hospital don’t allow aby products for baby. Only water and cotton wool. I’d be murdered if they seen sudocrem or wipes other than waterwipes. Mad isn’t it?

Ahh not long for you too! Oh god, I hate it when they’re strict like that, and then you get a lecture – ugh! xx

Gosh this brings back memories! I didn’t use half the things I packed in mine, but you have to chuck everything in just incase, you never know what might happen! Good luck with it all 🙂 xx

Woohoo to the Ribena. My blood pressure went sky high during labour/birth then plunged back down to the usually quite low pressure. I needed something sugary (Ribena and Jaffa cakes) to make me feel better.

Oh scary! I had her on Monday and was so glad I packed Ribena, needed that sugar! X
