THIS COMPETITION HAS CLOSED. THE WINNER IS TRACEY PEACH FROM CAMBRIDGESHIRE. THANK YOU TO ALL WHO ENTERED AND YOUR GREAT DECLUTTERING TIPS!
Earlier this month I told you all about HomeSense opening their fab new branch in Taplow. Well to celebrate, I have teamed up with HomeSense to offer you lucky readers the chance to win a £100 HomeSense gift card! (UK residents only)
If you’re unaware of who HomeSense are, where have you been?! 😉 They are the sister brand of TK Maxx, selling the most coolest, quirkiest homewares and gifts. They also sell practical stuff too. On the HomeSense launch day I got these drawer organisers and glass jars, with the aim to do a spot of decluttering.
I was fed up of packets of pasta cluttering up my kitchen cupboard, the packets never resealed properly and I was always finding rogue pastas at the back. And as for my kitchen drawers, I couldn’t even see what was in there!
BEFORE:

So I cleared a shelf on my bookshelf to make a display of pasta jars, and sorted out that kitchen drawer!
AFTER:

It’s so much easier to find things now, it makes me so happy!
So, now for the bit you’ve been waiting for – how do you enter the competition? Well, I want you to tell me your best decluttering tip! Think of one, and click here to enter via Rafflecopter:
You have until close of play Friday 20th November to enter. Good luck!

My fave decluttering tip is the 3 basket rule. One basket — put away — another basket — recycle/charity shop/Ebay — third basket — BIN IT!! Worls wonders for me! 🙂 Thanks so much for linking with us on #HomeEtc

My initial thought was put it in the loft haha! But I’ll say that if it hasn’t been worn since two seasons ago – bin it! I’m a terrible clutterer and need a home sense near me!

Take the stuff you have no use for anymore to a charity shop or car-boot, or if it’s night time you can often find recycling for books and clothes in supermarket car parks in the form of big metal bins, there are also websites dedicated to re-homing your clutter which you could use.

If you’re trying to throw some things out but you’re not sure, leave them in a box for a week or two and see if you miss them! If you do then keep them, if not then chuck them!

I am the worlds worst hoarder and unfortunately have passed the trait on to my 5 year old daughter (who won’t even throw sweet wrappers away). we have come up with a system to help us both and not go into complete meltdown. If it’s something you haven’t used/worn/played with in the last 3 months it goes in the loft, if you then need/want it in the next 3 months we can go back up and get it. If we don’t go in the loft in those 3 months the whole lot gets chucked/donated.

Decluttering is all about being ruthless. Have your husband/partner/children near by to tell you the truth -you don’t need all this stuff!

I’m really ruthless when it comes to decluttering. Usually will donate/chuck it out if I know it hasn’t been used for a year. Usually happens that you need to use the item for some reason right after you get rid of it though! Just hate clutter and mess – my nan is infamous for hoarding, she’ll have stuff that’s ten years out of date in her cupboards!

If you’re struggling to get motivated, start with one drawer or one cupboard! If you don’t use it anymore, aren’t going to use it, or it doesn’t fit, then get rid of it! Donate to charity or sell on eBay. If you’re not very ruthless, maybe enlist the help of a friend or relative 🙂

Those hanging pocket bags intended for shoes are great for organising things like toiletries, stationery and all kinds of bits and bobs that tend to get jumbled together. And when they are organised, you can see at a glance what you have so don’t carelessly buy more before old products are finished.

My tip is that when decluttering set a timer for 15 minutes and declutter for 15 minutes – that way it isn’t a terrible chore. If necessary you can do several 15 minutes during the day.
