Earlier this month I told you all about HomeSense opening their fab new branch in Taplow. Well to celebrate, I have teamed up with HomeSense to offer you lucky readers the chance to win a £100 HomeSense gift card! (UK residents only)
If you’re unaware of who HomeSense are, where have you been?! 😉 They are the sister brand of TK Maxx, selling the most coolest, quirkiest homewares and gifts. They also sell practical stuff too. On the HomeSense launch day I got these drawer organisers and glass jars, with the aim to do a spot of decluttering.
I was fed up of packets of pasta cluttering up my kitchen cupboard, the packets never resealed properly and I was always finding rogue pastas at the back. And as for my kitchen drawers, I couldn’t even see what was in there!

So I cleared a shelf on my bookshelf to make a display of pasta jars, and sorted out that kitchen drawer!

It’s so much easier to find things now, it makes me so happy!

Try and get the kids involved and make it fun. Make it a race/game or have something fun to do after they have spent a certain amount of time decluttering their rooms.

I have a good decluttering when I do a spring clean…a fresh start

At the end of the summer I clear out all the summer clothes that I thought I might wear before summer had started but didn’t, and I do the same at the end of the winter. If I haven’t worn them all summer/winter I’m certainly not going to wear them NEXT summer/winter. I also break my decluttering down into manageable bites so each task is not too daunting and I know I will be able to finish. I might declutter one kitchen drawer without losing enthusiasm but if I tackled the whole kitchen at once I’d lose the will to live before I got very far!

With your wardrobe, clear out everything which you haven’t worn in 3 months. Books are taken to the charity shop once they are re-read unless I know I will really want to read it again! All CDs are loaded into the computer and put in the loft for safe keeping 🙂

I’m really bad for hoarding kitchen utensils and gadgets- my tip for de-cluttering these is to throw out anything that is broken instead of leaving it in a drawer in the hope i’ll fix it one day (I never get round to it!)

Keep on top of it, just a few hours of decluttering every month can be enough to stop things piling up

Use old loo rolls in a shoe box to store wires/chargers etc. It stops them getting tangled together and makes them easier to identify

Pack away your winter or summer clothes when coming into a new season. I’ve just packed away my summer clothes and got my winter ones out. I now have a lot more hanging space to make way for buying new winter clothes. I’ve also packed away my summer night wear, socks, shoes and sandals

I’m pretty ruthless with de-cluttering. Every year I go through all of my clothes and if I have not worn them the previous year they go to charity. I also put all my summer/spring clothes in the loft out of the way.

when tidying your wardrobe, turn the hangers in the opposite way from normal ~and when they have been worn put them the “normal” way that way you will be able to tell what clothes you have not worn within a certain time frame, and can donate them to charity

Wow, such a difference to your cupboards, I definitely need to try that one out!
My best decluttering tip is to think to yourself “will I still need/want it in a years time” and if it’s a no, it’s got to go!
My local charity shop love me, haha.
My mum is a big hoarder, so I’m quite strict with myself in decluttering!

Break it down and do it by stages – pick a small area and clear that, if you really struggle to let things go put them in a box or bag and if you haven’t missed them in a couple of months get rid of the box/bag without looking in it!

If you have not used an item of clothing for over 2 years take it to the Charity Shopfor

We will put things we don’t think we use in a box or a drawer and set ourselves a time limit, say 3 months, and anything still in the box (unused) after the time limit goes – it stops us leaving things in the back of a drawer for years because they aren’t “in the way” but really we don’t need them. Also we have a rule if we buy something new we have to get rid of something – so if we buy a new pair of shoes, we have to get rid of a pair of shoes. Not only does this stop us getting clutter, it makes us think twice before impulse buying.

On a nasty day i do a spring draw/cupboard clean out it soon cheers me up seeing old objects and old items and unused get taken to the local charty shop
