This week I decided to paint a part of our apartment that I’ve been meaning to do for ages. I bought some bright yellow paint and a mini-roller from Wilkos and got cracking. Can you guess which room…
I guess the title of this post gives it away, it’s the kitchen. We have an open-plan kitchen and living room, and this is how it looked before:
And after I painted the wall yellow:
So bright and sunshiney now 🙂 I spent yesterday morning prepped by lining the sides and socket with masking tape. It’s a boring task but worth it for a neater finish. I then painted the majority of the wall with a mini-roller, and the edges with a paint-brush. I did two coats, leaving 2 hours between coats.
I chose a vibrant shade of yellow to compliment my bright accessories, such as my Kenwood kMix Kettle and Toaster. I looked at special paint for kitchen walls, but there are only pale shades in the range. So I went for the Wilko Durable Matt Paint in Lemon Burst, which says it is washable and scuff resistant on the tin – so I should be able to wipe any splashes off from cooking.
It goes well with my kitchen table and chairs, I am so pleased with how it looks. It got me tidying and cleaning up too, which always helps 😉
It even matches my well-loved Typhoon weighing scales which I use a lot for baking cakes.
These are the products I have used, all from Wilkos, coming to under £20. I always seem to shop there for my painting supplies, they are good value for money and handy being in the high street.
Harris Jumbo Mini Roller Set £3.50 | Wilko Masking Tape 50p | Wilko Durable Matt Paint – Lemon Burst £12 (on offer, normally £15)
What do you think, do you like it? How have you decorated your kitchen?

P.S. My top tip is to have a pack a baby wipes on hands – good for wiping off accidental paint smudges off surfaces while the paint is still wet.
Love the colour, very cheerful!
