When we were looking online for train-themed activities for our holiday in Cornwall, we stumbled across some photos of the coolest looking miniature train. It looked like a little version of the Intercity 125 HSTs. We just HAD to find it.
The railway that this train was on is called the Little Western Railway. Not to be confused with it’s sister railway Lappa Valley, the Little Western Railway is a separate track right by Newquay Zoo and the Crazy Golf.
The track is a circular one, 300 yards long and the view is really pretty! There are 3 coaches to sit in, it goes quite fast through a tunnel and over a stream.
This railway has been here over 50 years, first opening around 1965 and being restored in 2009. Many generations will have been on a train on this track!
The ride is about 5 minutes, and you go twice around the track. So obviously if you are going, you should make it part of your day out. Newquay Zoo is next door, as is the Newquay Crazy Golf, plus a cafe and playground. We decided to do this railway first, folowed by the playground before driving to the Bodmin & Wenford Heritage Railway.
This is a little video we made of the Little Western Railway.
