My 11-year-old son had his first ever driving lesson in a Vauxhall Corsa last weekend and we could not believe how well he was driving in just half-an-hour! Why does your child need a driving lesson so young?!
Young Driver do driving lessons for kids aged 10-17 (child’s minimum height 1.42m), so they get that experience before they have their actual lessons from age 17. The aim is to encourage teens to become safer drivers, giving them a head start when it comes to learning to drive.
For us personally, Tyler has been so keen to drive – I am always finding him in my driving seat pretending to drive, looking at the gear stick and all the controls. He is always playing driving simulator games, and we all know he want to be a bus driver. So when I found out about Young Driver, I knew this would be a perfect way to give him the chance to drive for real without having to wait until he turns 17.
And let me tell you… he LOVED it!!
Young Driver teach at locations all around the UK. Tyler’s lesson was at the Uxbridge location – on the top floor of The Chimes car park. It was a Sunday morning and there were about 7 or 8 Young Driver cars ready for their young students – lots of excited kids and teens. Honestly, the smiles I saw!
After signing in, we were told which car would be Tyler’s and which teacher would call for him. Parents could watch from the spectator area. We booked the In-Car Film which I recommend paying the extra for, as you get footage of the lesson to keep (as seen above). It’s given to you on an SD card and it includes sound so you can hear the whole lesson too!
Tyler’s teacher was so cheerful and cool, she taught Tyler really well. It was surreal to see him driving, and everyone in the specatator area was amazed at how perfectly he reversed into his parking spot! See it in this reel:
