It is March – and that means Spring should be here any day soon! It honestly couldn’t come any sooner, we all need a bit of warmth after all this cold weather, and that includes in the home too. January was all about decluttering, February was about sorting out what was left after the decluttering, and I would say March is about freshening up the home with new trends.
So what exactly is on trend for Spring 2017? Well there are two trends you are going to see a lot of – ‘New Opulence’ and ‘Greenery’. With Opulence, think lush velvets, rich textures, reflective mirrored surfaces, bold bursts of colour, jewel toned accessories and rustic rugs. Greenery is Pantone’s colour of the year, bringing foliage indoors, which you can do with stylish faux plants. And my favourite home store HomeSense have a gorgeous range to bring these new trends into your home. I went into the Taplow HomeSense store on Sunday with the family. We were after new plates as all our ones have chipped, and these quirky ones caught my eye.
Very Alice in Wonderland – we got four plates and four bowls in the end, and they were good value too – £3.99 per plate and £3.49 per bowl. Tyler had the best time trying out all the chairs, and doing a bit of shopping for himself. We were looking for new storage for his billions of wooden train tracks.
This desk caught his eye – well he does love looking at himself. And it definitely goes well with the opulent trend.
Here he is choosing his train track storage – he went for the grey elephant one, which to my relief does look stylish and will look good in our living room. It was £12.99, again good value for the size I’d say.
Back to the Spring Trends, this is the look that HomeSense have pulled together – totally gorgeous. I just LOVE that peacock cushion – well you know I love flamingos, and bird-related accessories! The cactus plant is so cute, it’ll make you feel you live somewhere hot, not the UK haha.
Gold Lamp £39.99 | Orange Candle £6.99 | Cactus Pot £16.99 | Sapphire Armchair £129.99 | Orange Cushion with Pom Pom Trim £12.99 | Parrot Cushion £16.99 | Emerald Throw £39.99| Gold Caged Lamp £99.99 | Peacock Cushion £39.99 – all from HomeSense
Whem I was instore, I spotted lots of colourful accessories that would add a burst of spring to the home, like these mugs for the kitchen. I have a one in, one out rule for mugs in our home now, and I would happily get rid of my old mugs to get these!
These bright drawers are such a cool style. I love the spindly legs, it’s got a 60s feel to it.
These watercolour print armchairs caught my eye. There were lots of other armchairs, sofas and wooden benches in store, all so stylish.
And you can see all the greenery accessories in the background. When we were looking at plates, I liked how this table was set up, the faux plants and flowers show how you can bring spring into the home.
You can see Tyler had a great time in HomeSense, though I was like “Tyler, we have to walk VERY slowly here” He was happy with my plate choice too.
So those are the Spring Trends for 2017 – New Opulence and Greenery. You can easily update the living room with velvet accessories (cushions or throws), gold lamps and frames, faux plants and new vases to freshen up your home’s look.
What do you think? Are you going to add some new accessories to your home this Spring?

I honestly think it’s impossible to enter Homesense and not buy anything haha
I recently found a 4 foot gold arrow perfect for hanging on the wall – it’s really bonkers but I know no-one else will have it – and it was only £9!
Love your picks hun.
